Federal regulations require tank car equipment owners to develop and manage a reliability-based maintenance program, to collect maintenance data, and to perform an analysis of the data to support the inspection and test intervals marked on the tank. While many RSI member companies have maintenance and reliability programs in place, the members recognize that new equipment owners may benefit from the expertise of RSI’s members in developing and implementing such a program. The RSI Committee on Tank Cars created this guidance document to introduce a common reliability language and bring together essentials of a reliability-based maintenance program into a concise and usable format for the railcar industry.
